The Personality Project: Kids
Let’s see what happens when we simply photograph who they are.
I’ve wanted to create something like this for a while. It's an extension of what I already believe -- which is that the most meaningful portraits begin with connection.
The Personality Project is my way of exploring that belief even further—stripping everything back so I can devote even more attention to the relationship unfolding in front of my camera.
Personality. Connection. Trust. Beautiful light.
Those are the main ingredients.
And I'm going to add in oooooonnnnne more:
A chair.
I'm curious to see what happens when a single, simple prop is used in unexpected ways, with beautiful window light and a child who feels completely free to be themselves.
Some images might include the chair. Some might not. The goal isn't a perfect pose—it's capturing the little things that make your child uniquely them: their expressions, their personality, their energy, and the little details you never want to forget.
I'm so excited for this!
The Details
Investment: $250 per child
Each child requires their own booking. For any age as long as they can sit up on their own.
Sibling portraits can absolutely happen at the end of children's individual sessions if time allows.
For now, these sessions are focused on the kiddos — but I’ll be exploring family versions once I see how much everyone loves this simple approach.
Your 15 minute session includes:
- A curated gallery of approximately 20 images
- 5 high-resolution digital files of your choice
- Additional digital files and professional prints available for purchase through the gallery
The Space
I wanted a space that matched the feeling I had envisioned: simple, beautiful, and filled with gorgeous natural light.
Studio Boheme is the perfect fit.
Located at 8408 Elbow Drive at the intersection of Elbow and Heritage, this sweet little studio has dreamy window light and a calm, minimalist atmosphere that allows your child to be the focus.
What to Wear
To complement the simplicity of the space, we recommend clothing that feels timeless and comfortable:
- Neutral colours – Soft, earthy tones such as cream, ivory, oatmeal, beige, camel, taupe, sage, olive, dusty blue, terracotta, and warm gray create a timeless, cohesive look. These colours allow faces, expressions, and connection to take center stage.
- Solid tones – Avoid large logos, busy patterns, and bold graphics.
- Beautiful textures – Linen, cotton, knits, muslin, and other natural fabrics add warmth and visual interest without overwhelming the image.
- Barefoot whenever possible – Bare feet create a relaxed, natural feeling... and honestly, who doesn't love those sweet little kid feet?
- Minimal distractions – Keep accessories simple and choose clothing that feels authentic and comfortable.
If you'd like to bring a few outfit options, you're welcome to! We can always decide together once you arrive.
A couple of final tips: Make sure clothing is clean, wrinkle-free, and fits well. A quick steam or iron before your session goes a long way and helps create a polished, timeless look.
A Little Extra Magic
My wonderful friend and stylist extraordinaire, Kelly Jo, will be joining me for these sessions.
While we haven’t had the opportunity to work together with kids a lot yet, I have a feeling our combined superpowers are going to create something pretty special. We both genuinely love connecting with kids, and we both believe the best portraits happen when children feel comfortable, seen, and completely themselves.
Sometimes that means a silly joke, a little bit of goofiness, a funny story, or simply creating enough space for them to forget the camera is even there.
Together, we’re going to create an environment where real personalities can shine through — the genuine smiles, the unexpected expressions, and all those little moments that make your child uniquely them.
I can't wait to see you there!
