With the Calgary Stampede just around the corner, I'm so excited to share the latest transformation of our backyard photo nook!

Using the same cozy nook that has hosted everything from Christmas photos to Hockey Locker Room sessions to a spring garden, we're giving it a true western makeover this summer.

What makes this set especially meaningful to me is that it isn't just western-inspired decor—it’s the real thing.

I grew up on a ranch, and with the help of my extended family, we've gathered authentic western treasures from ranches in the Longview and Chain Lakes area to create a space that celebrates Alberta's ranching heritage. Every piece has a story and a connection to the western lifestyle that I grew up around.

You'll find a saddle, cowboy boots, hats, ropes, western blankets, chaps, a cow skull, antlers, and other authentic ranch artifacts throughout the set. We're designing the nook so pieces can be moved and rearranged, allowing us to create a variety of different looks and find the perfect setup for each family, child, couple, corporate team or grad who visits.

One of the things I love most about this idea is that it's a quieter way to celebrate Stampede.  Not everyone loves the crowds, noise, and overwhelm of the Stampede Grounds. This little western nook lets you soak up the spirit of Stampede in a relaxed setting while still embracing all the fun and tradition.   

And if you LOVE the Stampede atmosphere, this is just one more way to have a Stampede party!!!

And unlike many photo sets, this one is meant to be experienced. Put on a hat. Swing a rope. Run your hands over the saddle. Little ones are welcome to touch, explore, and play with the artifacts while we create photos that feel natural and full of personality.

So dust off those boots, pull on your favourite western shirt, gather the family, and come celebrate Stampede with me.

When is the Stampede Photo Nook available?

One of the best things about this little western setup is that it's right here in my backyard!

I do have a couple dates set aside for the Stampede Photo Nook.  But with it being in my backyard, it means we're not limited to a single photo day. We can round up a date and time that works best for both of our schedules and create a session that fits your family perfectly.  I would suggest morning up until 12:30ish and then from 5:00 onwards is the best timing.    If it's a bright day those afternoon hours get pretty sunny in the nook.   It's no impossible, but know that the lighting is more tricky!

Whether you're looking for updated family photos, a fun corporate experience, western-themed portraits of the kids, grad photos with a Stampede twist, or simply a fun way to celebrate Calgary's favourite time of year, I'd love to welcome you to the nook.
